The Challenge

Behind the visible wealth in the Hamptons is a largely unseen community of people who work as domestics, seasonal workers, laborers, and local families that are struggling to survive.

These families are deprived of the opportunities and basic necessities that are often taken for granted by their neighbors. Many of their children spend their summers in the back of their parents’ car waiting for them to be finished working.

The shame of the poverty cycle, particularly in a wealthy community, can be overwhelming and disheartening. For that reason, Hamptons Community Outreach brings life-saving and life-changing essential services to those who need them most, meeting them where they are and working alongside them as they seek to create a better life.

HOME REPAIR

Many families in the Hamptons live in homes that are unsafe and in desperate need of repairs from structural damage, toxic black mold, and a host of other issues.

To date, Hamptons Community Outreach has successfully repaired and renovated 80 homes, and currently has 50 homes on the waiting list. Each application is reviewed and thoroughly vetted as it is submitted. Once approved and funded, they work together with local partners to repair each home, reunite families, and rebuild lives.

crisis care

CRISIS CARE

Limited transportation, childcare, or a medical need can cause loss of income or employment, and have a tragic domino effect on an entire family’s well-being. HCO seeks to intervene and alter the trajectory of our underserved neighbors facing circumstantial and financial crises.

They fundraise to meet urgent or unexpected needs, such as vision/hearing/medical treatments, dental work, car repairs, utility bills, legal assistance, or rent. Hamptons Community Outreach provides assistance when it's needed most, to help people get back to work and back on their feet.

Results

Poverty is personal, not one-size-fits-all. HCO identifies the root cause or fundamental need in a client’s situation, and problem-solves to create real, long-lasting impact.
